Born in Treorchy in the Rhondda Valley. Anna started playing at the age of 12 under the guidance of Ieaun Morgan MBE . Progressing to Principal cornet with the Treorchy Youth Band and Mid Glamorgan Youth Brass Band and being a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales . At the age of 15 she became Principal Cornet of the Lewis Merthyr Brass conducted by Brian Buckley CBE. In 1989 moved to Manchester to study at Salford University and was asked to joined FODENS Brass Band by her cornet tutor John Hudson who was principal cornet at the time. She had great success with FODENS one of the highlights winning the Europeans in 1992 with the Year of the Dragon. She has had a varied and enjoyable banding career playing Principal cornet with Wingates and being appointed Principal cornet of Besses o’ the barn the first female to hold this position in the bands’ 181 year history along with an enjoyable success with YBS under David King winning the British Open in 2003 with Planets and the Europeans in 2003, 2004 with Concerto Grosso and Music of the Spheres.
Whilst a peripatetic music teacher for Bolton Music Service she conducted the Bolton Junior and Youth Band and also St Helens Youth Brass Band. Currently she is Upper Brass tutor for Bolton School Boys Division and conductor of the FODENS Junior Brass Band along with musical director of the The CreateBoltones, an exciting project run by CreateBolton.CreateBoltones which offers teenagers and young adult with learning difficulties the opportunity to make music and participate in community activities.
In 2017 she was awarded the Harry Mortimer Medal due to her ‘outstanding contribution and immensely valuable work with young brass musicians’.
