Mike began playing at the age of 7 with the Poynton Youth Brass band where he progressed through the ranks to the principal cornet seat. During this time he was also principal cornet with Hazel Grove Brass Band and the Cheshire Youth Brass Band. Since then Mike has held positions at Fodens, Yorkshire Building Society and the Hepworth band.
Since 2004 Mike has been a member of the Fairey band where he now plays Flugel. Mike also conducts the world famous “Acid Brass” project with the Fairey band and has conducted the band at several major festivals throughout Europe.
June 09 saw Mike complete his BA in music, gaining a first class honours degree, but also being awarded the Harry Mortimer Performance prize. Mike then went on to complete his PGCE with specialist instrumental tuition. Mike is in much demand as a teacher and now teaches all around Cheshire for the Love music trust and Music for life, and has recently been appointed as Musical Director of the Poynton Youth Brass Band in which he began playing.
