Having been influenced by music throughout his childhood, James has successfully paved a career for himself as a percussionist, and is highly sought after. He started playing when he was 4 and was initially taught by his grandad, Dennis Chalk, and joined Wilton and District Youth Band.

James teaches percussion lessons in the Salisbury area and is also involved with recording and other session work in and around the south of England.

The first Wessex course that James attended was in 1984, spending three years in the junior band before moving up to the senior brass band and being appointed as one of our percussion tutors in 2000. Since 1984, James has only missed one course, and so it is no surprise that as a student he was awarded the “Courtney Bosanko Shield” for his commitment and dedication to the course.
