Jon is a cornet, soprano cornet, and trumpet player, and currently holds the “bumper-up” solo cornet position with Foden’s Band, one of the world’s leading brass bands.

Having started playing cornet at the age of nine, Jon progressed through local youth and senior bands before becoming Principal Cornet with Crewe Brass. In 2008 he joined the Fairey Band first on solo cornet and subsequently soprano Cornet, before joining Foden’s Band in 2018.

Throughout his playing career, Jon has enjoyed success at many of the brass band movement’s leading contests, including the British Open Championship, the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, Regional Championships, and numerous Whit Friday March contests. He has toured extensively in the UK and overseas with both the Fairey and Foden’s Bands, and has appeared on a number of commercial recordings and concert productions.

As both a cornet and trumpet player, Jon has experience across a wide range of musical styles and settings. He particularly enjoys helping players develop their sound, technique, musical confidence, and enjoyment of playing, whether they are taking their first steps on the instrument or performing at an advanced level.

Away from music, Jon is a Chartered Chemical Engineer working in engineering design and consultancy, primarily within the chemical and oil and gas industries. He is also a keen photographer and enjoyer of steam engines!
